How the e-mails work

Uses the search, kind and company you set above (not the month or sort). As we post means within about 15 minutes of a new item; digests go out in the morning, U.S. Central time, weekly on Mondays, and only when something new matches. Updates start right away, and every e-mail has a one-click unsubscribe. If you tick Catch me up, the earlier items that match also come two a day, oldest first, each morning until you are up to date; you can stop that alone from any e-mail. Someone you invite gets one e-mail asking them to accept, and nothing more unless they do; we don’t tell them who invited them. Privacy.

Court orderDecember 16, 2025Getty Images (US), Inc. v. Stability AI Ltd (Re Form of Order), [2025] EWHC 3343 (Ch) · High Court of England and Wales (Ch), IL-2023-000007

Joanna Smith J grants Getty permission to take the 'infringing copy' question about Stable Diffusion to the Court of Appeal, and refuses Stability permission to appeal the trademark findings

At a consequentials hearing on Dec. 16, 2025, Mrs Justice Joanna Smith granted Getty Images permission to appeal her Nov. 4, 2025 dismissal of the secondary copyright infringement claim, which turned on whether an AI model that does not store copies of the works used to train it can be an 'infringing copy' under sections 22, 23 and 27 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. She said the appeal has a real prospect of success because it raises "a pure question of law" on which reasonable lawyers may differ, that the point is novel and important, and and that she would not split the grounds, so permission covers all of Getty's grounds. She refused Stability AI permission to appeal her findings of trademark infringement over generated watermarks, holding that its three main grounds had no real prospect of success because two sought to reopen her factual findings on UK user activity and the third challenged her identification of the average consumer. Stability may still ask the Court of Appeal directly. No Court of Appeal decision had been published as of Oct. 17, 2026.

What the labels mean

Every item says what kind of source it rests on. A court ruling or order is the court's own statement. A company filing is what a defendant says about itself. A government filing is a statement by a government agency that is not a party to the case, such as a statement of interest; it is the government's position, not a ruling. An allegation is what a complaint or motion claims and has not been decided. Reported means press reporting we have not confirmed from the primary document. Summaries are our own; follow the links for the source.

This page is general information, not legal advice. An allegation is not a finding. Whether any of this matters for a particular work or claim is a question for a lawyer.
