Music publishers file a second suit against Anthropic, Dario Amodei and Benjamin Mann, alleging they torrented books of lyrics and sheet music from LibGen and PiLiMi
Concord, Universal and other music publishers filed a second complaint against Anthropic, this time also naming founders Dario Amodei and Benjamin Mann. It alleges the defendants used BitTorrent to download millions of books from Library Genesis and Pirate Library Mirror, that those books included collections containing the publishers' songs, and that the same works were uploaded to others during the torrenting. The complaint lists 714 works for the torrenting count. It alleges that Mann personally took part in the torrenting and that Amodei discussed and authorized it. The publishers say they learned of the torrenting only in July 2025, from rulings in Bartz v. Anthropic. Other counts allege copying of 20,517 works in training and in Claude's output, contributory and vicarious liability, and removal of copyright management information. These are allegations; no court has ruled on them.

What the labels mean
Every item says what kind of source it rests on. A court ruling or order is the court's own statement. A company filing is what a defendant says about itself. A government filing is a statement by a government agency that is not a party to the case, such as a statement of interest; it is the government's position, not a ruling. An allegation is what a complaint or motion claims and has not been decided. Reported means press reporting we have not confirmed from the primary document. Summaries are our own; follow the links for the source.
This page is general information, not legal advice. An allegation is not a finding. Whether any of this matters for a particular work or claim is a question for a lawyer.
