Kadrey authors also oppose textbook authors' bid for their own interim class counsel against Meta, saying no conflict has been shown
The plaintiffs in Kadrey v. Meta, the first-filed authors' class case, filed an opposition in the textbook authors' separate suit, Sullivan v. Meta, as Judge Chhabria had directed that day. The Sullivan plaintiffs have asked for their lawyers to be appointed interim counsel for a subclass of textbook authors. The Kadrey plaintiffs argue the request is premature: nothing pending requires the court to decide leadership of a possible subclass now, and an early appointment could complicate case management across the related Meta cases. They say no fundamental conflict between textbook authors and other rightsholders has been shown, and that the Bartz v. Anthropic settlement, where authors and publishers were in one class and shared each work's proceeds, points the other way. They describe Sullivan, filed in July 2026, as "a repackaged version of the Kadrey cases" built on the record Kadrey developed about Meta's torrenting. The filing says summary judgment briefs in Kadrey are due Dec. 16, 2026. They ask that the motion be denied without prejudice. These are one side's arguments; the court has not ruled.

What the labels mean
Every item says what kind of source it rests on. A court ruling or order is the court's own statement. A company filing is what a defendant says about itself. A government filing is a statement by a government agency that is not a party to the case, such as a statement of interest; it is the government's position, not a ruling. An allegation is what a complaint or motion claims and has not been decided. Reported means press reporting we have not confirmed from the primary document. Summaries are our own; follow the links for the source.
This page is general information, not legal advice. An allegation is not a finding. Whether any of this matters for a particular work or claim is a question for a lawyer.
