Authors in Hobbs v. Meta, transferred from New York, ask that their suit be assigned to Judge Chhabria alongside Kadrey, and say Meta agrees
The Hobbs plaintiffs, whose class action over Meta's torrenting of LibGen and Anna's Archive was transferred from the Southern District of New York on Oct. 5, filed an administrative motion in Kadrey on Oct. 21, 2026 (Dkt. 875) asking that Hobbs be reassigned to Judge Chhabria as a related case. They say both suits concern Meta's training of Llama on pirated books and journal articles downloaded by torrent, and that Hobbs also alleges distribution and removal of copyright management information. The motion states that the Hobbs defendants agree the cases are related. It follows the publishers' similar request in the Elsevier case a week earlier. The court has not ruled.

What the labels mean
Every item says what kind of source it rests on. A court ruling or order is the court's own statement. A company filing is what a defendant says about itself. A government filing is a statement by a government agency that is not a party to the case, such as a statement of interest; it is the government's position, not a ruling. An allegation is what a complaint or motion claims and has not been decided. Reported means press reporting we have not confirmed from the primary document. Summaries are our own; follow the links for the source.
This page is general information, not legal advice. An allegation is not a finding. Whether any of this matters for a particular work or claim is a question for a lawyer.
