Reservoir also sues Suno over 1,050 compositions, alleging stream-ripping from YouTube with YT-DLP and scraping through Bright Data tools
On the same day as its suit against Anthropic, Reservoir and its UK affiliates sued Suno in the Northern District of California over 1,050 compositions. The complaint cites Suno's own answer in the labels' Massachusetts case, which said its training data includes essentially all music files of reasonable quality on the open internet. It alleges that Suno got the works by stream-ripping YouTube with YT-DL and YT-DLP to defeat its rolling-cipher encryption, and by scraping licensed streaming and lyrics platforms using Bright Data proxies and unblocking tools that bypassed logins, paywalls and bot defenses and dropped CMI. It pleads copyright infringement, DMCA section 1201 circumvention and section 1202 CMI removal, and seeks an accounting of all training data and scraping. Press reports put the damages claimed at about $186 million. These are allegations; Suno has not yet responded.

What the labels mean
Every item says what kind of source it rests on. A court ruling or order is the court's own statement. A company filing is what a defendant says about itself. A government filing is a statement by a government agency that is not a party to the case, such as a statement of interest; it is the government's position, not a ruling. An allegation is what a complaint or motion claims and has not been decided. Reported means press reporting we have not confirmed from the primary document. Summaries are our own; follow the links for the source.
This page is general information, not legal advice. An allegation is not a finding. Whether any of this matters for a particular work or claim is a question for a lawyer.
